Can I vent?

I was busy at work yesterday and konked out early last night, but I was able to read some posts. I was especially affected by Cindy's post at http://cynthialeedesigns.wordpress.com/. I know that we all live in different parts of the country, and all have different political and social beliefs, but I just have to get this off my chest. Some of you may not like it, some will say hoooray, but it really is what I believe.

I am a life-long and somewhat liberal Democrat, so it probably goes without saying that I was thrilled (and impatient) to see Bush finally go and Obama get elected and take office. I have watched something ugly happen to this country over the last 8 years - to its government and to its people, especially those if us in the middle class ... ignored, forgotten, lied to, and hoodwinked. We are now in quite a mess. What has distressed me is watching the petty partisan yapping that is going on in Congress over the past 3 weeks, while millions have been laid off, losing their homes, losing everything. It is way past time that the minority party in Washington get on the bandwagon and SUPPORT Obama, not try to nitpick at his efforts to clean up a mess that was left for him by the very party that is trying to obstruct him now. He won, and he won big. Get the message. If you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem, and we have enough problems right now, thank you.
Back in 2001 during those awful days after 9-11, the country (and the Congress) did not play partisan politics. In the crisis, everyone stood together behind the president(including those of us who thought the election was, shall we say, not quite right??) because we recognized the tragedy and the changes in our lives required support and unity. For the life of me, I cannot understand why in THIS crisis, the same support is not forthcoming. This is a crisis of such enormous proportions that it is effecting everyone, regardless of religion, political party, education, location--EVERYONE. It's not the time to play politics, it's the time for action. I am just so disgusted at the delays and the whining of the very same 'leaders' who supported a decade of greed, lies, and deregulation. I am just so angry!! :<(
Ok, I know this isn't the right venue to spout off about politics, but I just think that we need to start speaking out before the entire middle class goes down the drain. We are all in this together, and we need to make our voices heard.
No prims this time, but I was just so blown away by what is happening to Cindy's family and so many others -- just had to say what was on my mind.
Hope next week is a better one... in many ways.

  1. I soooooooooooo agree with you!!! Stush lost a thirtysomething steelworkers job a year ago next month, my heart broke for him, he was 5 years away from retirement.

I worked at a Christmas job for almost 2 months and was hoping they'd call me back for Valentines Day but no call...hopefully maybe for Easter:)(retail)

I know I watch to much CNN... sometimes I have to change the stations I get so angry and mostly disgusted. One Republican was on saying Obama's way wasn't the answer so he was voteing "NO" stupid, stupid man!!! What does he think is going to bring back jobs and better economy? Giving tax breaks to the rich?

I will say that this is one election that I followed very, very closely, it was a election of "hate" but mostly of "love" and you could see that at the anugeration:) I'll admit that when they showed Bush getting on the helicopter to leave, I stood in front of the TV and waved back saying out loud "Goodbye you **&&# and don't ever come back."
Thank you for letting ME vent...hopefully our country will get back to the way it used to be only stronger:)

  2. I'm with you Terry!
My sister, a title researcher, has been without a job sice September. She is a single parent with 3 children that she has to support! Because of the housing situation it does not look like she will be going back to work anytime soon!
She has applied everywhere! There are no jobs out there!
I agree with you Terry! Things are getting really bad for people out there. I am thankful that Joe has a good job as a firefighter.
I wish others, in Congress, would band together and support their commander and chief!

  5. Hi Terry,
Well we for one are NOT for this president nor will we ever be for this president..he is a socialist in the worst way..and he has us scared for our lives, jobs etc..everyone is so bent out of shape with Bush..and yes there were things he did that we didn't like..but you will remember he walked into a huge mess left by a democratic president Clinton..who could have had Osama a couple of times..but didn't feel the need..now Obama is letting all of those wack job terrorists ouf of Gitmo to go and live in the real world and they are already back to what they love doing..killing...he is going to hurt us before he helps us..I just pray he will use his noggon and let God help him to do what is right..cause so far he sure hasn't impressed us much...you can't even go out and buy ammuninition cause it is too flippin expensive and for so little do you get..he doesn't care that you own a gun..he is just going to make it hard to own one..and as for free health care..go to europe and see what they deal with...I for one have seen it first hand and there is NO way I would want that here...Sorry for going off..but we feel he is going to lead us down CARTER lane or bigger yet into the worst depression ever...Take care and give big boy a big hug for me...Happy Valentines day..:)

  6. Terry,
I agree with you and pray wholeheartedly that our President can get our country back to where it once was. It's so scary, all of the jobless, the homeless, the hungry. I do have faith that President Obama is the man to turn things around but I hope that congress and the senate show him some support. Happy V. Day, girl.

  7. Terry-I am not an Obama supporter. I do however feel he is a good speaker and the country is in such despair they needed to hear someone who could speak to them. I am like many others in a middle class home and have grown up in a middle class home. I believe the American people live way above there means and now want the goverment to bail them out. I don' think there is any one person to blame for the economy. It has been a trickeling effect that we didn't want to see.(For the men and women who have lost their jobs I feel sorry) As an owner of a small business I need people with money to support us, not more free bees. Remember the saying if it sounds to good to be true it usually is. As far as jobs out there I agree we are in a tough spot but how many of us have multiple cars and vacation on credit and use credit cards knowing we really do not have the money to spend. I also agree that the worst case would be free medical, I know for a fact it does not work. I pray for the president as I know his job is not going to be easy. I will as an American citizen try my hardest to help the economy and others who are less fortunate then us. Thanks for the vent time.

  8. Hi Terry,
Thanks for your comment on my last post. It means alot to me that you are thinking of us and keeping my family in your prayers. This is a very difficult time for us, but I believe we will be a stronger/closer family because of it.
I do hope that our new president can find ways to help our economy and that all of us can hold on to what we have until things improve.
    hugs, Cindy

  9. I totally agree that we need to support our president no mater which one was elected- in this crisis just as we did the one in office after 9/11. As horrific as 9/11 was, it didn't touch as many families as this one does. Entire families of several generations are out of work with no hope for the future. Something needs to be done and we need to start somewhere.

And it is YOUR blog so if you choose to make a political statement, you do not need to apologize to anyone.

    hugs, Linda

  11. Back again...
Can you see me ??? I am standing....Can you hear me?? I am cheering and clapping. I agree with all you have said - we could argue forever over Carter, Clinton, and Bush (Father and Son) - all I know for sure is, ALL of the above brought us to President Obama!
I am still standing only my hand is over my heart and I am reciting...I pledge allegiance to the flag and to the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA...Judy
